From bud break to bloom, fruit set to veraison, ripe into harvest; I watched and studied the Bishop Creek Vineyards for the last two growing seasons. I fought with the weather to achieve the photos I wanted, much as they fought with the weather for the conditions they needed. The 2006 summer was a long, hot summer that allowed them to take their time and get as sweet as they wanted. The 2007 summer was moodier and created a whole different style of beautiful characteristics. Yet, at all times, the grapes were growing, changing, and becoming something of their own. So often we fail to slow down long enough to take in the finer points of a moment. We glance around and only capture the overview. I find that sentiment and all that we find endearing is found within the details of a person or a landscape. This series is an attempt to pause long enough to extract the smaller points that are usually missed, and bring them out as the main focus.

The shadow box effect is an attempt to lend a 3-D quality to the images. I hope to allow you to feel as though you are staring out your window into the backyard and really see it for the first time.

Living in Portland with family in Montana, I am often traveling through open countryside and desolate landscapes. It makes me nostalgic for the cotton fields and hay bales I left behind in Alabama. The rusted farm equipment left on the side of the road and the dusty dirt roads that lead off to back fields reminds me of a simpler type of life; a life I often forget when caught up in the noise and traffic of a city. There was a painting of a river flowing through a Fall landscape, with autumn leaves floating in it that hung above our dining room table when I was a child. My brothers and I always tried to grab the leaves out of that painted river. To our imaginations it seemed possible.

I hope to evoke that same sense of possible tangibility for those that view these images.

Using a toning process that tones the black of the image, without effecting the highlights, I was able to take close ups of floral images and adjust the black and white prints to reveal a Technicolor side of their intent.  Framed in antique windows to give a country style garden feel to the works.

For one who gets lost in the aesthetics of a jaw line for hours.

This is a thirteen piece series, consisting of high contrast, single light source, close up nudes. The concept being to imitate the sun’s effect of texture in light and shadow on sand dunes and rolling hills with the human form to display the true beauty of human contours.

The centerpiece of this series is a collage comprised of roughly seventy photos arranged to create one human form engulfed in all possible settings.
